The vast majority of light weight (backpacking) tents in the UK
are manufactured in the Far East and they are imported into this
country by the distributors. If anything goes wrong with the tent
within the warranty period the tent is normally replaced. If
anything happens to the tent outside the warranty period (or if the
warranty does not cover the damage) then our workshops can offer to
repair the item.
The most common repairs workshops undertake are to
the zips, poles, replacing groundsheets and patching holes and
tears. Workshops always take into account the value of the tent and
the cost of the repair and our workshops may advise that a tent
is uneconomic to repair. Budget tents made in the Far East suffer
zip failures fairly frequently because the metal used in the zip
slider is relatively soft and wears and distorts very easily all
workshops do in that case is replace the slider. More specialised
tents suffer a similar problem after extensive use in extreme
conditions where sand and dirt wear down the metal zip sliders but
as the nylon teeth of the zips remain sound and again only the
sliders need replaced and the nylon teeth cleaned with a silicone
spray.
A
major problem with budget nylon tents and elderly well
used backpacking tents (originally made in the UK such as Ultimate, Phoenix
and Vango Force Ten Nylon tents) is ultraviolet deterioration. Over the past 10
years this has become serious as the hole in the Ozone
layer has increased the effect of UV light on nylon fabrics and some
colours absorb more UV light than others. Twist the fabric in the damaged area to
see if it tears easily. If it does then the fabric
may be too tender to take a stitched repair.

Their Workshops are experienced in repairing most types of heavy canvas tentage including the popular Stormhaven, Icelandic and Nijer series from Blacks of Greenock, the Sherpa series from The North Face and others.
Through the winter months our workshops are quieter and encourage heavy tent users who are typically groups to consider having their patrol tents repaired between October and January.

They can patch
damaged sleeping bags and replace zips or zip sliders if they are broken.
Unfortunately sleeping bags with synthetic fibres or down cannot be refilled.
Almost every repair to sleeping bags has to
be costed individually, please contact them for details on how our workshops can
fix your bag and the most economical way to send it to us.

Your gaiters can take a fair bit of
punishment on the hills; if you tear or damage them their workshops can help. Theyre
also able to replace broken straps and laces, zips or in the case of Yeti
gaiters replace the rubber rands that go under your boot.
