Camping In The Woods

Forest Holidays has released a handy travel-sized Caravan & Camping brochure for 2011. The user-friendly brochure is packed full of information on all 20 Forest Holidays Touring Sites which are located in idyllic locations across the UK. Whether your initial choice is a full facility site or something a little more rural, Forest Holidays has a pitch to suit all tastes. A huge range of on-site activities are also available including Forest Ranger tours, fishing, cycling, archery, horse riding, climbing, water sports and forest walks; enough to keep even the most active camper entertained. Forest Holidays recently joined the Green Tourism Business Scheme;  scheme whereby all its sites will be measured over the course of the year on such things as recycling, energy usage, biodiversity and even what produce is stocked in the shops. Four of the sites have been presented with David Bellamy Conservation Awards; Hollands Wood was presented with a silver award, whilst Glenmore, Postern Hill and Cobleland have been presented with gold awards. David Bellamy Conservation Awards are given to sites which can demonstrate policies showing active concern for the environment including the protection of plant and animal habitats, the efficient use of energy and recycling. Forest Holidays sites were developed by the Forestry Commission in the '60s to cope with the demand for places to stay in the forest and to regulate the camping that was already occurring in order to prevent damage to the forests. Forest Holidays operates entirely within the Forestry Commission Estate and provides cabin, caravan and camping holidays at 24 great locations in England, Scotland and Wales. It's a partnership between the Forestry Commission and The Camping and Caravanning Club. Bob Hill, The Camping and Caravanning Club’s Sites Director, said, “2011 brings some key changes; for the first time, campers will be able to bring their dogs along to any pet-friendly Forest Holidays sites for free. Additionally, children under the age of five will also be able to camp free of charge." The Forest Holidays Caravan & Camping e-brochure 2011 is now available to view online - www.forestholidays.co.uk.
