With the weather we've had this weekend in the UK, it's pretty obvious that winter is upon us, are you ready? To prepare you for the winter chill, we've put together our top picks of the latest gear to keep you toasty on your hikes...
Columbia - Altitude Aspect Fleece
If you're after a new fleece for the winter then the Columbia Altitude Aspect fleece is one to consider. This fleece features Columbia's Omni-Shield advanced repellency technology which gives it brilliant water resistance. The Omni-Shield is also highly breathable which means that the Altitude Aspect will work in a three-in-one layering system.
Montane - Alpine Stretch Glove
Looking to buy some new gloves for the upcoming season? Want something that stands out but has amazing features? Then the Montane Alpine Stretch Glove is the one for you! The Alpine Stretch features DRYACTIV 2000 which beds down into the shape of the glove helping the hot air escape quicker and reducing the risk of you getting sweaty hands. This Montane glove also features PRIMALOFT GOLD insulation so no matter how cold it is when you're hill walking you fingers will be warm. They also have a great softshell finish to them so it doesn't look like your everyday glove.
The North Face - Evolution Triclimate Jacket
The North Face Evolution Triclimate is a classic 3 in 1 jacket that pretty much every hiker has either owned or has always wanted to own! The Hyvent waterproofing will keep you dry throughout the winter months, but is highly breathable meaning you won't get all hot and bothered. The fleece in this jacket is a 100 weight so it's lightweight but will keep you warm if it's cold outside. It also has tonnes of pockets and other features so it's no surprise it's a hikers go-to 3 in 1.
Black Diamond - Sabretooth Crampon
Made from real Sabretooth bones....only joking! If you're in the market for new crampons this winter then the Sabretooth from Black Diamond is definitely worth considering. This crampon features 14 points of contact with horizontal front points which will give you added grip and work perfectly when ice climbing. The Sabretooth comes in either 'Clip' or 'Pro' versions and will fit different boots so check whether your boots are a B1, B2 or a B3 boot to see if they are compatible. With all its great features it's not surprising that the Black Diamond Sabretooth is a winner of the Peoples Choice Gear Award.
Mammut - Mt Trail Boot
To go with your new Sabretooth crampons why not buy some new boots? The Mt Trail from Mammut are a classic full grain leather walking boot with a B1 rating. They of course have a Gore-Tex membrane and a Vibram MT-Traction sole, and to top if off they also have a full rand as well. They're quick and easy to get on and off and offer amazing support, it's clear to see why these boots have won Trail Magazine's '1st' award!
Mountain Hardwear - Scrambler 30 Rucksack
Last on our list (but no means least) is the Scrambler 30 from Mountain Hardwear. The reason why you need to get this pack this season is down to one thing really... it's fully waterproof (don't believe us then watch the video below) so if its tipping it down with rain or snow, all your kit inside will stay dry.
