Ski Resorts to Kick off Season
Many ski resorts in Austria, France, Switzerland, Italy are scheduled to open this week when they officially kick off the winter season. High-altitude ski resorts Sölden in Austria, Val Thorens in France, and Crans Montana in Switzerland are due to open winter ski areas on November 19, November 20 and November 21 respectively. Excellent snow conditions led to Austrian ski resort Obergurgl-Hochgurgl opening 10 lifts for the weekend on November 14, and the area is set to resume the systems on November 18. Swiss resort Verbier opened for the weekend on November 12 and is scheduled to officially kick off from November 20. The Espace Killy ski area in France that links skiing and snowboarding resorts Tigne and Val d'Isere has announced plans to open on November 27 - the same day as the resorts of Alta Badia in Italy, Ischgl and Zell am See-Kaprun in Austria, and Samnaun in Switzerland. Other ski reports that are partially open include Zermatt, Saas-Fee and Gstaad in Switzerland, Cervinia, Val Senales and Passo Tonale in Italy, and Neustift, Hintertux and Kitzbuehel in Austria.
