Wild Night Out 2016

Britain’s first National Day of Adventure is being held this year, on the 16th July. Wild Night Out is a concept created by adventurer and Explorers Connect founder Belinda Kirk.   FB-post-image (1)   Belinda has been leading groups in the wilderness for 20 years and has seen the positive impact adventure and being outdoors has on people of all ages and from all walks of life, but especially for children.   Through outdoor activities and play, children learn important life skills, build confidence and just as importantly, have fun. It’s a sad fact that the proportion of children in the UK regularly playing in wild places has fallen from over half to under 1 in 10, and this is something that Belinda wants to change through the Wild Night Out.   The idea is, that you, your family and friends are invited to plan an adventure, whether you camp in a back garden, go on a hike, organise a canoe trip or even plan a multi-day challenge around the date – it could be anything! You can do this alone, with family or friends or as part of an organised Wild Night Out event with new people.   credit Waheed Rasul Khan - Lunch on Ben Nevis   If you’re taking children on an adventure, then Wild Night Out is already on its way to fulfilling its goal of getting 2 million more children having adventures in the outdoors over the next few years. But it doesn’t stop there.   Every year Wild Night Out will be supporting charities to help even more kids do the same. This year it is partnered with the Youth Adventure Trust and it aims to raise £20,000 for them in its first year, to help vulnerable disadvantaged young people feel the benefits of outdoor play and adventure too, giving them the hope, skills and confidence to face the challenges in their daily lives.   Some people have already started their Wild Night Out adventures; Paul is walking LEJOG and Chris is walking the Pyrenean Way. Having amazing life experiences that they’ll cherish forever and raising money for a great cause at the same time.   To find out more about how you can join in the fun, visit the Wild Night Out website, where you’ll find tips and ideas, events you can join across the country and how to donate.   Don’t forget to tell Wild Night Out about your plans on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using the #wildnightout hashtag. You could even win some great prizes including a £50 Simply Hike gift voucher!
