How to Store Your Skis

Leaving your skis out all year round may see them get dirty or damaged so ensuring that they are stored away correctly during the summer months is the best way of retaining their quality. If you are unsure how to store your skis, just simply follow these 5 simple steps and you’ll be able to use them over and over and keep them in great condition all year round! 1. Clean So it’s the end of the ski season and you’re not planning to hit the sloped for at least another few months – the first thing you need to do is clean your skis. Using a sponge and mild soapy water, rub any dirt off the skis and then rinse with clean water. Wipe the skis with a towel or dry cloth until they are thoroughly dried and then apply your base cleaner (this product may have a little alcohol in which some may find damages the outer layer of the skis). 2. Wax Using a thin liquid wax, cover the base of your skis without applying the wax too heavily. Depending on the temperatures you ski in, different types of waxes may be better suited to your skis. Once the skis are covered in a thin layer of wax, use a warm iron and rub the ski length ways to melt the wax. Once the wax is completely cool you may add a little polish. 3. Storage Area Temperature and humidity are huge contributing factors when it comes to storing your skis properly. A storage area where you can monitor the humidity levels is best if you don’t want your skis to warp with the heat and moisture in the air. Always keep your skis at low humidity. 4. Straps Bands which hold your skis together stop them bending out of shape. In order to keep the ski shape make sure you buy enough straps (Velcro or buckled) to hold them in place. Place your skis upright and strap them at each end and in the middle. 5. Bag Once they are strapped together, you can place the steady skis in their bag. Place the bag with the skis inside in the storage area, ensuring they stay straight and upright and always check they have maintained their shape before you next use them. If you are serious about skiing then you will know how important the maintenance of your skis are, and if you really want to enjoy yourself and make the most out of your skiing performance, keeping your skis stored correctly and safely is the best way to do so. Happy skiing!
