What Are The Best Walking Socks?

We have based our results on customer feedback and the opinions of our experts. Good walking socks help avoid blisters and help support and protect your foot. Although many people belittle sock technology it is a really important factor and can help walkers at all distances avoid discomfort and injury. Remember to check out our size chart and walking sock reviews for working out which walking sock would be best for you.

A Few Features Worth Looking Out For:

Womens walking socks offer a slimmer fit and tighter fitment around the ankle than men's walking socks and should be considered a must for lady hikers. Merino wool within the weave of a sock offers additional comfort, softness and padding. Coolmax is a performance fibre that wicks moisture away from the skin leaving the foot feeling cooler and dryer.

So Which Walking Socks are best?

We took about ten pairs of our most popular walking socks on a day’s walk across the Kent North Downs. Each pair got 20-30 minutes wear although keep changing them did become a little tiresome... We then combined our thoughts with customer feedback to produce our best walking sock table below.

        • Tried the Bridgedales as we both like merino socks but found they shrink quite a lot in the wash – even on a 30 deg wool wash. Also tried other brands with a lot of merino in them and found the same thing. Then saw these reviewed on Pete Macfarlane’s blog.

We bough the Taihape Fell socks and theyre great, more comfortable than the Bridgedales and they haven’t shrunk in the wash.

        • Why are the women’s socks reviewed by the ’tester’s wife’? Isn’t she also a tester like her husband?

        • The reason the wool socks shrink is from the agitation not the temperature. I do wet felting and the way to shrink and tighten the felt is via a combination of agitation and temperature change. You can completely felt and tighten up any wool item by agitation alone. Using temperature changes speeds the process.
To keep your socks from “shrinking|” (felting) wash by hand or on an extremely gentle cycle only.
Of course the more wool -the more it “felts” . Other additions, such as bamboo, spandex etc..will minimize the shrinkage.
          good luck!!

        • My feet are sensitive, so I prefer the cotton and breath fully socks walking.

        • I discovered Bridgedales about 5 years ago and believe that they are the Rolls Royce of the sock world. Brilliant to wear for work or walking
